HOW TO FILE RTI INDIA

As per the RIGHT TO INFORMATION ACT, 2005
its a right of every citizen of  INDIA to access the information under the control of public authorities, in order to promote transparency and accountability in the working of every public authority.


"It extends to the whole of India except the State of Jammu and Kashmir"


HOW TO FILE  RTI  APPLICATION?
it can be in any format
a printed one, hand written or even a simple application on a plain paper could work for you.


WHAT CAN YOU ASK IN THROUGH  RTI APPLICATION?


one can ask for any kind of the following information from any competent authority under govt of india.

"information"
 means any material in any form,
including
 records
 documents,
 memos
 e-mails
 opinions 
 press releases
 circulars, orders, logbooks,
 contracts, reports,
 papers, samples, models,
 data material held in any electronic form.

inspection of work, documents, records;
 taking notes, extracts or certified copies of documents or records;
 taking certified samples of material;
 obtaining information in the form of diskettes, floppies, tapes, video cassettes or in any other electronic mode or through printouts where such information is stored in a computer or in any other device;


"public authority"
means any authority or body or institution of self- government established or constituted—
(a) under the Constitution
(b) by any law made by Parliament
(c) by any other law made by State Legislature
(d) by notification issued or order made by the appropriate Government,
and includes any—
(i) body owned, controlled or substantially financed
(ii) non-Government organisation substantially financed.



whom can you write RTI application?
under the rti act every competent authority will have a PIO OFFICER{public information officer} who is responsible to answer all such RTI'S under the department where he is appointed.
so its quite clear that you have to address your application to the  PIO OFFICER of that particular department.


What is the fee?
it requires a rs 10/- fee for each RTI application.
it could be in the form of IPO (INDIAN POSTAL ORDER) or in the form of cash.
note:
 fee could be vary with different states.
however if your asked information required a large no. of pages then you have to give extra fee later which is rs 2 per extra page.

How to submit/send RTI application?
you can submit your application directly to tha PIO officer of that particular department or send it with speed post to the same pio officer of that particular department.


SOME TIPS TO MAKE YOUR RTI EFFECTIVE:

1. Do not write extra personal information which is not required.
2. If you don't know whom to submit fee just add the blank ipo with the application and write"i am sendind  
    the fee in the form of ipo rs 10/- no....(ipo number).. please fill in the particulars by yourself." at the end of  
    your application.
3. add " please send me the answer with registered post/speed post only" to your application.
4. never use words like WHY, which, when just ask for the written proof documents, data, records or any
    other kind of stable proofs.
5. If possible ask your query in a tabular for like:
